Families planning to take a break abroad this summer have been advised that cruises can be a great option for those with children.
Melissa Paloti, managing editor of Cruise Critic, said holidays at sea are becoming increasingly family-friendly, with many ships now boasting rock-climbing walls, bowling alleys and teen discos.
"Cruises are so popular with families because of the flexibility they offer; you can spend as much or as little time together as you like, with kids clubs even open on port days," she explained.
Ms Paloti noted that cruises can also be good from a budgeting point of view, as the cost of meals and entertainment tends to be included in the base fare.
According to Nadine Hallak, a spokesperson for Cheapflights Media, Irish families hoping to stay closer to home will find that Spain is one of the most affordable eurozone holiday destinations due to the low cost of living there.
