There are nine new secondary schools opening around the country this week to receive a hopefully excited bunch of first year students! Details of the new schools are below. By clicking on the links below you will find contact details for the new schools where they are available.

There are also details below of a number of schools which are amalgamating from this September along with a couple which have closed.

NEW SECONDARY SCHOOLS opening in September 2016:

  • Dun an Rí College (76313A) in Kingscourt, Co. Cavan:
    Dun An Ri College is a multi-denominational non-designated Community College due to open under the patronage of Cavan and Monaghan ETB in September 2016 catering for 500 pupils.  The original site for the school was purchased in 1982 however this was not large enough and an additional land was purchased adjacent to the existing site in 2014.  The site now extends to approx. 14 acres. The new build will be approx. 6 000 m2 and comprises of a standalone PE Hall a Special Needs Unit and a Fitness Suite.  This Special Needs Unit will allow for a family member with additional educational needs to be accommodated and educated in the same setting as the other members of the family. The principal appointed to this new school is Fergal Boyle.

  • Kingswood Community College (76293U) in Tallaght, Co. Dublin:
    Kingswood Community College is a multi-denominational non-designated Community College due to open under the patronage of Dublin & Dun Laoghaire ETB in September 2016. The College will open in September 2016 initially in temporary accommodation whilst the new school building is under construction. The principal appointed to this new school is Deborah Dunne.

  • Ballinteer/Stepaside Educate Together Secondary School (68241F) in Ballinteer/Stepaside Co. Dublin:
    Ballinteer/Stepaside Educate Together Secondary School is a multi-denominational Voluntary secondary school due to open under the patronage of Educate Together in September 2016 
    The school will open in temporary premises in the Stepaside /Kilternan area and is on the Department of education building list for 2018. The school building will cater for the learning needs of 1000 students. The principal appointed to this new school is Barbara Mulhall.

  • Carrigtwohill Post-Primary School (76333G) in Midleton/Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork:
    Carrigtwohill is a catholic designated Community College due to open under the patronage of Cork ETB (involving the Catholic Bishop of Cloyne) in September 2016. The principal appointed to this new school is Lorna Dundon.

  • Bremore Educate Together Secondary School (68262N) in Balbriggan, Co. Dublin:
    Bremore Educate Together Secondary School is a multi-denominational Voluntary Secondary School due to open under the patronage of Educate Together in September 2016. The school will open in September 2016 in prefabs located beside St George´s National School currently occupied by Coláiste Ghlór Na Mara. A permanent site has been acquired by the DES on the Naul Road. The principal appointed to this new school is Kathy Jones.

  • Carrigaline Edmund Rice Trust School (68264R) in Cork City:
    Carrigaline ERST School is Catholic Voluntary Secondary School due to open under the patronage of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust in September 2016. The principal appointed to this new school is Adele Flynn.

  • Cork Educate Together School (68263P) in Cork City:
    Carrigtwohill is a catholic designated Community College due to open under the patronage of Cork ETB (involving the Catholic Bishop of Cloyne) in September 2016. The principal appointed to this new school is Colm O'Connor.

  • North Wicklow Educate Together Secondary School (68261L) in Co. Wicklow:
    North Wicklow Educate Together Secondary School is a Voluntary Secondary School due to open under the patronage of Educate Together in September 2016. The the school will be starting out life on Putland Road Bray in the premises currently occupied by the Bray Adult Education Centre. This will be a temporary location for the school whilst the plan for the permanent location of the school is advanced. The principal appointed to this new school is Jonathan Browner.

  • Clonturk Community College (76394D) in Whitehall, Co. Dublin:
    Clonturk Community College is a multi-denominational Community College due to open under the patronage of City of Dublin ETB with Educate Together as Trustee Partner in September 2016. The college will be co-located in the building currently occupied by Plunket College. The principal appointed to this new school is Susan Campbell.


    SECONDARY SCHOOLS AMALGAMATING in September 2016:

  • Mercy Heights Secondary School, Skibbereen (62490T),
    St Fachtna’s De la Salle College, Skibbereen (62480Q), and
    Rossa College, Skibbereen (71090E)
    will amalgamate from September 2016.
    The new amalgamated school will be called:
    Skibbereen Community School Roll Number: 91516B. The Principal of the newly amalgamated school will be Mr Anton O'Mahony

  • St Nessan’s Community College, Moylish, Limerick (71920T) and
    Salesian Secondary School, Fernbank, North Circular Road, Limerick (64280S)
    will amalgamate from September 2016.
    The newly amalgamated school will be called
    Thomond Community College, Roll Number: 76414G
    Moylish Park, Moylish, Limerick . The Principal of the newly amalgamated school will be Mr Eugene O'Brien.

  • Presentation Secondary School (63000E) and
    Mean Scoil Mhuire, Galway (63010H)
    will amalgamate from September 2016.
    The newly amalgamated school will be called
    Our Lady’s College, Roll Number: 68285C
    Presentation Road, Galway City. The Principal of the newly amalgamed school will be Ms Cliona O'Neill


    SECONDARY SCHOOLS CLOSING September 2016:

  • Ardscoil Éanna (60990G) in Crumlin, Dublin 12 (will close with effect from 31/8/2016)
  • Scoil Carmel (64300V) O’Connell Ave, (Limerick will close with effect from 31/8/2016)
