It has been reported in The Herald today that a house party for a sixteen year old girl was mobbed by over two hundred teenagers in Dublin on friday evening. The father of the girl told Herald.ie that he was hosting a party for his sixteen year old daughter’s birthday when it was mobbed after the ‘Facebook invite’ of the event went viral.

The mother, Mrs Osifa, told how the party was gatecrashed by drunken teenagers and the house was damaged and ransacked during the party. When the girl’s father confronted some of the gang he was threatened with a knife, according to Robin Schiller’s report in the Herald.ie:

“A knife was put up to the throat of Mrs Osifa's husband Igosa as he tried to prevent a gang of youths from ripping a television off his wall. A bottle was also smashed over Mr Osifa's head.

The gardai were called and cleared the teenagers and no arrests were made.

There have been a number of high profile incidents were parents homes were ‘mobbed’ by teenagers after their Facebook pages went viral. Parents can protect themselves from incidents such as these by educating their teens about privacy settings when creating a party event on the social media site. Parents should ensure party invitations remain private.
