One Good Idea Competition - 20 School Finalists Announced

Posted by Schooldays Newshound, on 29/04/2016. One Good Idea Competition - 20 School Finalists AnnouncedTags: Teachers

Students from twenty schools all over Ireland have made it to the National Final of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland’s (SEAI) One Good Idea competition after running creative energy awareness campaigns in their schools and local communities.

The One Good Idea competition, sponsored by AIB, encourages students in both primary and post primary schools to inspire and educate people to make small lifestyle changes to use energy more efficiently and help tackle climate change.

The aim of the competition is to increase students’ understanding of energy efficiency and climate change by encouraging them to take individual and collective responsibility for tackling these important issues. Students use creative approaches to promote energy awareness and this year examples of the successful finalist projects include an energy quiz app which calculates your carbon footprint with an aim to make your home more energy efficient, as well as a clothing swap shop to promote greener fashion.

The successful finalists will attend a National Final event in Dublin on 11th May where they will present their project to a panel of judges. The lucky winners will get great prizes, including tablets and vouchers, as well as cash prizes for their school. In addition, the top four teams will have their project developed into a national poster campaign with the support of design and communications professionals.
