RTE is reporting this evening that a secondary school in the East of the country is to close for 14 days following the first case of coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland.
According to RTE, the Department of Health said that staff and pupils at the school are being treated as close contacts of the first case that was detected here yesterday.
It does not name the school which is in Glasnevin, Dublin 9
The Department of Health says the secondary school which is being closed following the first case of Covid-19 will not be identified - in order to "protect the individual, their family and their community".
Dr Holohan told a press briefing that parents and teachers were being informed about the closure of the school tonight. RTE 1 news this evening says the infected student is male and returned from a recent trip to Italy
