Secondary students encouraged to eat less meat -

Posted by SchoolDays Newshound, on 04/04/2019. Secondary students encouraged to eat less meat -Tags: Parenting Teachers

The Irish Independent is reporting today on the response of the Irish Farmers Association to a Resource Pack made available to secondary schools which it says encourages pupils to eat less meat and run 'meat free Mondays'.

The resource pack is made available to teachers to download as part of the An Taisce Green Schools Programme. The pack is endorsed by the Minister for Communications Climate Action and Environment, Richard Bruton.

The Independent reports that the IFA President Joe Health said that while the Green Schools initiative is a very positive programme, "he accused An Taisce of crossing the line by including dietary advice in their resource pack. “This is beyond the remit of An Taisce and it not consistent with dietary advice given by the Department of Health, the competent authority, on balanced diets.”

The Green Schools Ireland Resource Pack on climate action can be viewed here. The reference to 'Meathless Monday Campaign' can be seen in Chapter 9 under 'Goal 3'
