At 11pm tonight Met Eireann issued a nationwide Red Alert with immediate effect for the WHOLE COUNTRY until 3pm Friday.
Minister of Education has confirmed that All Schools, third level institutions and colleges of further education will be closed tomorrow and Friday across Ireland.
UPDATED 1PM Wednesday 28th
National Emergency Co-Ordination Committee announces all schools and - colleges in Munster and Leinster to close for Thursday and Friday as New Red Alert weather warning announced for Leinster and Munster.
Decisions about school openings for Ulster and Connaught will be taken at local level by school boards of management.
12noon
A NEW Red Alert Warning has been issued this morning (Wednesday) for Munster and Leinster by Met Eireann.
This new warning comes into effect at 4pm on Thursday until noon on Friday. Met Eireann is warning that 'blizzard like' conditions will develop.
School Transport Services will not operate in areas affected by the Status Red weather warning.
Schools will continue to notify parents about school closures directly but it is expected that the number of schools impacted by the severe weather will substantially increase for thursday and friday now that the Red Alert has been extended to Munster
