At 11pm tonight Met Eireann issued a nationwide Red Alert with immediate effect for the WHOLE COUNTRY until 3pm Friday.
Minister of Education has confirmed that All Schools, third level institutions and colleges of further education will be closed tomorrow and Friday across Ireland.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Red weather warning for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow.
Bus Eireann has advised customers that School Transport Services in areas affected by the Status Red weather warning will not operate.
However decisions on whether to open schools today in 'Red Alert' counties remains with local boards of management. The Minister for Education has said this morning "Decisions on school closures will be made locally by each school individually depending on the circumstances in their area, this includes schools in the red areas. We will continue to monitor the situation and update further throughout the day".
Many schools have already sent out messages this morning to parents advising parents that schools will remain closed
