Educate Together and the Humanist Association of Ireland (
HAI) have introduced the first ever Humanism lesson plans into Educate Together Primary Schools from First to Fourth Class. The lessons have already been piloted in eight Educate Together schools successfully and are now being made available to all primary schools in Ireland.
The lesson plans came about in response to a gap, identified by
Educate Together teachers, in relation to resources for teaching about philosophical outlooks that do not encompass a deity.
There is no shortage of teaching resources about religious belief systems such as Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism but up to now there has been very little, and certainly nothing Irish-produced, in terms of teaching resources about humanism, atheism or agnosticism.
The lessons are available to download on the Educate together website
