The Department of Education has published a document titled 'Guidance on Continuity of Schooling - for primary and post-primary Schools'.
All schools are currently closed under Covid-19 restrictions. The guidance in this document from the Department of Education and Skills (DES) is being put in place as a contingency measure to support the continuity of teaching and learning in the event of an extension to public health measures and follows on from
Circular Letter 0024/2020The
document states that it's aim is to "support schools to provide all of their students with an effective education programme, insofar as possible, in the current context. Many schools and teachers are making huge efforts to support students at home. The guidance draws from the experience of different types of schools that are actively engaging with their students using a range of approaches and resources1"
The key themes in the document include:
The role of schools in engaging with students
Teachers and school leaders working together
Keeping in touch with students - the importance of providing feedback and advice

How schools are dealing with educating children during the COVID 19 crisis varies widely. A few are great..lots not so. Some sent detailed instuctions, others essentially a list of links..I would ask all schools/teachers to remember to make learning at home as easy as it can be please..in some houses there are 2 parents trying to work, lots of people may be smartphone literate but not IT literate, limited wifi particularly in rural areas makes online activity during the working day difficult, lots of houses have 1 laptop with more children that that. This is not a rant, rather a request to schools to ask them to put themselves in parents and children's shoes before they send learning home. thank you

Myself and my husband are frontline workers, currently working hours of 12 to 15 per day. Our 17yr old is at home studying for his LC..with little and sometimes no broadband. Lots of work being sent on different platforms, Edmodo, Microsoft, Microsoft teams...lots and lots of links but little or no individual feedback or guidance. No feedback to parents if teachers are worried about your child's progress...I'm extremely worried about the exams, extremely worried for my son which has added to my stress at home and in work. Appalling situation for all our young people to be in.

Too little too late. Some teachers have say around for weeks now and done nothing. Some Principals have been in sporadic chaotic contact. Teachers even less. DeptEd needs to get a grip

This should have been released weeks ago. My child's school didn't even provide an email address for the teacher. Lists of schoolwork that were little more than homework with no explanation were provided on Aladdin. I thought it was disgraceful. I can't believe in our time of crisis that so little effort was made esp. as the Dept. specified
