The transition from primary school to secondary school can often be as problematic for parents as it is for students. This is particularly so when it comes to the mathematics homework.
The development of topics such as Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus can bring some parents out in cold sweats as they feel that they are no longer able to help their offspring with gaps in their learning.
Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) have set up a 'Maths for Mum and Dad' online training course. The programme aims to help parents fill in gaps in their own knowledge of mathematics so that they can better support their child through secondary school. The programme is delivered mostly online using a mix of online videos, online exercises and specially tailored workbooks.
Support is provided both online and through regular tutorial sessions in Waterford Institute of Technology. While the course is free, booking is essential.
The programme allows parents to progress at their own pace and many of the resources can be re-used by the second-level student to help them with their studies.
