With a Status Orange low temperature warning in place for the country, some parts of the country will see severe frost, ice and lying snow with the potential for temperatures to plummet to -8 degrees.
According to
RTE, a spokesperson for the Department of Education and Skills has said schools nationwide will remain open tomorrow.
However media outlets are reporting that some schools in worst affected areas are to remain closed.
According to
Independent.ie, all national and secondary schools will remain closed in Westport and Louisburgh Co Mayo. They also list the primary and secondary schools in Balla as remaining closed along with Belcarra NS, St Louis School in Kiltimagh. In Castlebar they list St. Patrick's NS and St. Angela's NS as closed and the following deciding not to open until 11.30 am - Davitt College, St. Joseph's Secondary School and St. Gerald's College.
In County Longford the
Independent.ie lists the affected Primary Schools as Newtowforbes, Drumlish, Ballinalee, Ballinamuck, St.Emer's, St. Mel's, Ardagh and Melview, while the second-level , Ardscoil Phádraig, Granard is also closing.
All Laois Offaly ETB schools and centres will
open tomorrow, Monday, December 11. The decision was taken this evening and announced on
their Twitter page . " It has also tweeted that Banagher College will begin at the later time of 10.00am. Tomorrow's Third Year CSPE Trip has been cancelled.
Leinster Express list the following schools as remaining closed on 11th December, Scoil Mhuire primary school in Abbeyleix, Camross NS, Killanure NS and St Francis school in Portlaoise
