Some parents concerned over future of small primary schools in Ireland

Posted by SchoolDays Newshound on 22/03/2011. Some parents concerned over future of small primary schools in IrelandTags: Primary School News

Some parent associations have expressed their concerns that small primary schools in Ireland may be closed following a review.

Last week, interest groups were given their final opportunity to tell the Department of Education why facilities in the country with fewer than 50 students should remain open, reports RTE.

This comes as part of a review launched by the department into small schools which will look at whether they are value for money in light of budget cuts on the nation's education system.

However, parent associations and rural communities are concerned that some of the 600 facilities with less than 50 pupils will close after the report has concluded.

According to the news provider, they have promised to fight against any possible closure.

This comes after the Irish Independent revealed that many two-teacher schools in the country get 30,000 euros from the government each year, which could save the country 20 million euros over 12 months if they were to be shut down.

Dear Supporters of our children, we call on you once again. Please share socially or verbally our goal to protect our small schools with family, friends and wider community. Simply distribute our online posters/flyers or word of mouth. We the people have our children's future in our hands. Lets us make the correct decision where our representatives fail us all. Thank you. SoNS.

Absolutely nobody has the moral or constitutional right to abuse our children's community and future. Least of all politicians misusing their newly elected power by the masses against the very masses.

Thank you.

the dept is trying to abolish the closed school rule regarding school transport for closed and amalagmated schools . so if they close small schools they will not have to provide transport for the children of these schools! read changes on bus eirenn website or budget 2011!
