afterschool....new rate???? 25/09/2018 22:29 - How Much Should I Charge or Pay (Locality: Mayo) ----------------------------------- Hi Im a registered insured minder with 2 boys from the same family...I had been charging 8euro per hr for minding the toddler and the boy in playschool. The oldest boy has started primary school and I now only have him from 2-5pm...Im still charging just 3 euro an hr for him....works out as 18 or 27 euro a week for him as they are a part time family....seems very little for keeping his space. Should I have negoiated a new afterschool rate or is it just hard cheese for me and am I being greedy😐

Unfortunately very difficult to change things now with the family, personally I´d not change for this school year as expectations made in parents eyes etc but you could run till say Halloween and ask relook at your contract. Is it your first time youv after schoolers to price? €3 is too low to continue on with as youv lost out in daily hours. Afterschool requires a new and higher rate, €10 an hr or slighly under wouldn´t be uncommon with insured childminders as you said youv only so many spaces and they each must pay their way. There is demand now for the insured childminder. Or give notice and take on new mindees???(not for me either as parents need to know you will have loyalty to them and their children for a long term relationship).

Yes its my first time having afterschoolers so its new to me,but Ive learned my lesson for the future. I will be smarter next time ...however Id be surprised if I managed to secure close on ten euro an hour for him but would be happy if I did.

Single child a higher rate before/after school parents have no problem paying as they value the service. Plus regulations are coming in for childcare centres offering afterschool so demand in childminders will only increase as these will tighten up the unregulated sector. Plus nat sch seem not to be renewing childcare provision contracts on their grounds so childminders are required once more in those areas. There are registered childminders that only take preschoolers so they get max day rate. Having afterschool child/ren is lovely for all.
