Its advised you need do your own checks as well as an agency offering them (google agencies in Ireland). You can also advertise privately like on aupairireland, have a read other peoples adds. Ensure you have a watertight contract and keep any extra hours and payments documented for both of you. Any au pair offering to live out avoid as this is what would catch you out as you need be their employer in that case.
If your children are young avoid as au pairs are more than likely unsuitable. The older child/ren can tell you what is going on and have your neighbours/school mums check on the standard of care.
