What way do childminders usually work for children of teachers who only want care during term time only?

Purely because any mention of holiday pay, bank hols etc I never hear back from the family n question. I live in a small rural area so Im delighted to have the work term time and even more delighted not to have to work full time during the school hols... Some childminders demand a retainer fee say 50%, suppose it depends how in demand you are and can you without the money during the hoilidays.
