Greetings. I would like to find out how one can become credentialed to teach in Ireland. I am an Irish citizen who lives in South west Cork. My teaching credential is a California Multiple Subjects Credential allowing me to teach Kindergarten thru 8th grade self-contained. I have 22 years of continuos teaching in California and would now like to come back to Ireland.
Who do I contact about my situation?
Can a California Credential transfer?
What are the steps I need to take to get teaching in Ireland?

Hi there, you should try contacting the INTO - Irish National Teachers Organisation - www.into.ie for starters.

However, you should be aware that to work as a primary school teacher in Ireland you have to be fairly fluent in Irish and pass a few exams in the subject, which I imagine could take a couple of years.

There are probably other options available to you though - maybe it´s permissable for you to work as a resource teacher, for example. The INTO is the best place to start. Good luck!
