Christmas season preparation
To be able to fill the surge of orders it needs this year, Amazon claims it will need to hire 50,000 seasonal workers to staff its fulfillment centers across the nation. The rest of the year, Amazon´s entire U.S. [URL="http://personalmoneynetwork.com/moneyblog/2012/08/10/frugal-ways-to-feel-better/"]fulfillment center[/URL] staff numbers around 20,000.
When including part-time employees, according to the Wall Street journal, the number of part-time employees increases to 69,000 globally.
Could become permanent for thousands
Dave Clark, vice president of global customer fulfillment for Amazon, said some of that seasonal worker may find full employment after the holiday seasons, which comes with a 30 percent pay raise.
Clark explained:
"Temporary associates play a critical role in meeting increased customer demand during the holiday season, and we expect thousands of temporary associates will stay on in full-time positions."

Merchants have to deal with the busiest shopping day of the year every tie, and that means kicking off with the day after Thanksgiving, known as “Black Friday.
In order to meet holiday shopping demands, merchants will hire seasonal staff usually. Retailers are hoping to have a brisker holiday than normal with the economy improving so well.
According to the National Retail Federation, U.S. merchants are hiring up to 623,000 seasonal employees this year. That is up from the 607,000 hired last year.
Target is hiring 90,000 employees, Macy’s is hiring 80,000, Kohl’s is hiring 52,000 and Wal-Mart is hiring 50,000.
Pressure to pay taxes
In the past, Amazon customers have loved a break from paying state sales taxes. However, the Seattle-based online merchant has come under pressure from states to change that. So far, however, is has pushed them off by promising to build more fulfillment centers, adding jobs to communities across the country. It has said it would build 18 such centers this year. According to the Wall Street Journal, only six of them had been opened by the end of June.
Amazon has only 40 distribution centers in the country, according to the LA Times, but that fact is argued by the Wall Street Journal that claims 69 exist across the country.
