ASD units

As a parent in Dublin 2 cant find no school either primary or secondary with ASD unit attached to mainstream school. Why is this? Is there no demand for them? Presently, a child has to access them outside their catchment area, and they then find themselves in a catch-22 situation. Any info from other parents on this greatly appreciated.
