My son who is in 4th class is excellent at all subject except Irish. Part of the trouble is the sameo trouble of not encouraging a love of out native language. For example when he gets Irish poetry to learn, it isn´t translated by teacher. On chatting with teacher; I find that the children are encouraged to translate themselves ! But Irish can´t be literally translated from Irish to English. When he has an English poem to study, we help by setting up an image or painting of each verse. But with the Irish poem, if he is left to translate himself, he can´t set up this imagery. It´s such a terrible pity that the our native language is not encourage.
Any help or comments would be appreciated.
thanks.
Brid
