National Concert Hall Learning and Participation Programme
We’re passionate about music, and we believe that the joy of music should be experienced by all. Our programme for children and families is based on fostering the natural creativity of the child, and of promoting music’s potential to promote family cohesion. We view children as co-creators of the learning process, and we develop our initiatives to be child-centred, and wherever possible, child-led.
Early Years Music
A growing body of research provides evidence of the long term benefits of music education from very early in a child’s life. We believe in this, and we also believe that it’s a great way to have fun!
Sample activities:
Mini-Music is an action-packed music workshop experience for babies and young children aged 3 months to 8 years
Bring Along a Baby concerts are designed for parents of babies and very young children to enjoy a concert of the highest standard while babies play, sleep or feed.
Family Music
We encourage engagement with music as a shared family experience, and most of our activities in this area include both parents and children as active participants.
Sample activities:
Our Family Concerts are designed to entertain, excite and educate! There are plenty of opportunities to join in, and we love to see different generations coming together to experience the music in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
Family Workshops are a great way for children and parents to have fun learning about music together. Whether you attend one of our Baby Bop or Toddler Twist events, or participate in our Let’s Drum, Family Jazz, or Gamelan interactive workshops, we’re sure that you will have a memorable experience of music-making together!
Musical Discovery
We aim to broaden the musical horizons of children and young people with a varied programme of discovery days, holiday camps and other activities. We also like to include cross-disciplinary activity with art, literature, drama and science.
