Our aquarium is home to over 100 native aquatic species from Ireland’s lakes, rivers, and oceans. Our exhibits reveal the often-invisible world of aquatic life surrounding our shores.
During your visit you can enjoy tours, talks, feeding experiences, and wander through the Aquarium at your own pace.
Key Features of the Aquarium
Image: In 2024 The Aquarium supported the See Water Differently Campaign. This meant that the Aquarium supported a new host of Freshwater Biodiversity and Conservation to inform the public about the value of clean water. View our playlist on Youtube here.
Image:The Aquarium has a traditional Galway Hooker on the first floor of the Aquarium. This vessel reminds us of our deep-rooted connection to fishing and the ocean.
● Education & Conservation: Engage with exhibits focused on informal ocean literacy and conservation education.

Other key exhibits include our museum-quality Bearna Log Boat (over 5,000 years old), a massive 60 ft (18 m) Fin Whale skeleton, a dedicated #UnitedforBiodiversity zone, and a traditional Galway Hooker sailing boat, and other small interactive education games.

Our Visitor Engagement Team is CREW-trained and part of Fáilte Ireland's Local Experts and Key Account programs. This means that they are visitor-focused, informed, and want to share amazing facts about our species with our visitors.
As a BIAZA and EAZA member, Galway Atlantaquaria is dedicated to animal welfare, education, and sustainability/conservation.
