Our Guide to Buying the Perfect Christmas Present for your Child's Teacher

At this time of year many parents will want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication their child’s school teacher has put into educating their children. Although not always customary, buying or making a small gift for the teacher has been traditional in many primary schools.

Before you decide on giving a gift this year make sure you ask what your school's policy is on gift giving (if any). Here's our suggestions for gifts for teachers.

Charity Gifts

There are plenty of charities both home and abroad that rely on donors to give small amounts as gift tokens and are considered both meaningful and personal to the receiver. Worthy charities such as the Simon Community and Trocaire offer specialised Christmas Cards every year with all funds going to those in need.

Delicious Gifts

Homemade gifts like baked goods are a perfectly balanced gift for teachers. Everyone loves cakes and there is just something about the word homemade that makes the treat even sweeter! Check out our Christmas Baking section for some ideas.

Hand-Made Decorations

A hand-made decoration for a Christmas Tree from children is an inexpensive yet creative gift for your child's teacher this Christmas.

Hand-Made Card

A simple note and homemade card from you and your child is a heartwarming and personable gift for any teacher. Especially appropriate for schools that have a no gift policy.

Pooling Money Together

If all parents are buying the teacher gifts, it can result in a lot of small things the teacher may not need or expect. It can also be an extra expense on families with more than one teacher to buy for. A popular way to treat the teacher for Christmas can be asking all parents who would like to contribute to put €5 in each and buying one large voucher or gift.
