5 Free Activities to do at Christmas as a Family
Christmas time can be an expensive time for families with seemingly everything costing a fortune! However, it is possible to have a magical time without it breaking the bank. We’ve got 5 activities that are free and fun for the whole family.
1. Christmas Lights & Picnic
Pack up a picnic of crackers, cold pasta, thermos of soup, chopped up raw vegetables and whatever else you can think of. Pop them in a backpack with a blanket (if it’s a dry day), and head to your nearest city or town. Most cities and towns will have a Christmas lights display and many people will have their houses decorated – take a walk through the streets spotting your favourite decorations and trees.
2. Local Christmas Fairs & Markets
You may argue you will want to spend money at the fair or market, and that’s fair! However, they are great for just spending a few hours perusing and chatting to stall owners. With most being small business owners who showcase their talents, if you do buy anything, you are helping your local community. 3. Make Hot Chocolate & Have a Christmas Movie Marathon!
Is there anything better than relaxing at home on a rainy day? Have a pyjama day with hot chocolate and biscuits in front of the TV! The kids would love the time spent cuddling up to parents (or playing on the floor while you watch the movie) and they’ll especially love the hot chocolate. 4. Free Local Santa
A Santa visit doesn’t have to be an extravagant affair. There are so many Christmas Experiences available to families but they can be expensive and book up fast! Check out your local shopping centre or any local halls or parishes that may have free Santa’s available. When there are local fairs, there is usually a Santa available for free or at a cheaper rate to the experiences. Ask around your community!
