Do they go to school by a regular schedule or how does it work?
Are they doing a project at home and self motivating?
Because my son can´t be self motivating it means I need to leave my job and stay at home to motivate him all the time to study and work on the project...

Hi Lena

Students attend school as normal during Transition year. They may also have the opportunity to do a couple of weeks work experience. In some schools students have the option of doing the transition year while in other schools it is compulsory. You can read more about the Transition Year curriculum on the following page on our website

You don´t necessarily need it.It is optioanl in many schools and compulsory in others. It can be useful for some who are younger than their classmates as it may give pupils time to mature and to do work experience to help choose a career. Depending on the school, there can be other opportunities also that pupils would not receive during preparation for the Leaving Cert which is a two year cycle.

Hello,
We are new to Irish education, can someone explain me why do you need a transition year in a secondary school? What is it for?
How does it work?
