Think your sister-in-law has left it too late Babs. I have a dressmaker friend who makes dresses for communions and she would have stopped taking new orders last November. Can´t believe some mums are that organised!

My sister in law got my nieces dress in a new bridal shop in Palmerstown (Dublin)and they were able to get her a dress with extra width so she didint have to order one far too big in length just to get it to fit her in the body. She got the works there, only has to get shoes now which like you said she´s waiting a bit longer

It is the second week in January, our daughters communion is in May so why do I feel so pressured into going and getting the dress and everything else that goes with it, just incase "all the nice ones are gone" I thought it would be a matter of going a month or six weeks before hand because they grow in spurts so what would you recommend. Go early or nearer to the date

Can anyone recommend a good dress maker in the west. My sister-in-law is looking for someone to make her daughter´s dress but I think she has probably left it a bit late!

Know what you mean about pressure - it´s listening to all the other mums running around getting organised that makes you think you should have it all done by now. There is still plenty of time but I would try and organise the dress by end Feb. The shoes are the more difficult problem as it can be hard to get them later but there is still quite a lot of ´feet growing time´ left before May. If you buy them early its a good idea to buy one size bigger. It´s a special time and event so try and enjoy the shopping expeditions with your daughter and don´t get too caught up in the hype.

I wouldnt wait to long on getting the shoes, the shops will usually recommend that you get the next size up. A friend of mine did this and come the week before she tried them on her daughter to realise they were two difference shoes but had great difficulty getting another pair. With my daughters i got a size up also they were still a little to big on day but i but tissue in the toe of them, did the trick!!!!!!
