Your a nanny in a family home and yes for your own protection you should insist on family registering..otherwise your just cash in hand so could be open to abuse like housework etc being slipped in, being let go at drop of hat etc. You´ll have no stamps built up for maternity cover, sick leave, redundancy etc. Your also uninsured so if you´d accident etc your not covered. You are entitled to minimum wage!
Explain to family it´s them in trouble if revenue find they are not paying prsi for you.
A nanny is most expensive form of childcare but it´s a personal choice and so convenient for the family.

I am new to child minding and have been asked to consider looking after two children in their own home. As I understand it, that means that the parents must register as my employer and pay minimum wage, tax, and so on.

My question is, does this happen in reality? Doesn´t this make childcare in the children´s home unaffordable for parents? Can anyone tell me how it works for them?
Any help would be very welcome.
