Minister Bruton invites applications for grants under the established Non-Mainstream Music Education Bursary Scheme 2018 €100,000 in grants for community music initiatives.

The Minister for Education and Skills, Mr. Richard Bruton T.D. today invited applications for grants under the established Non-Mainstream Music Education Bursary Scheme 2018

The purpose of the scheme is to provide support by way of a cash grant, to established, smaller-scale, non-mainstream music education/community music initiatives with limited or no access to other forms of public funding. Grants can be used to purchase instruments, other equipment and tuition. Grants are not intended for use on capital expenditure such as structural or building costs. The total budget available in 2018 is €100,000.

Minister Richard Bruton said, “We’ve seen a big focus on the Creative Arts across the whole of Government over the past year. It is so important to nurture and encourage creativity in our young people, both for their own personal development but also to prepare them to flourish later in life in a modern economy. In my area, in education, the Creative Schools initiative has recently been launched which separately, but directly, supports schools to integrate arts and creativity.

“Today’s announcement is another initiative we are supporting to ensure that we are nurturing and encouraging creative and talented young musicians. I hope that this initiative will continue to help to further shape the landscape of music education in Ireland and provide support and encouragement for future talent.”

Interested parties can find the application form on the Department’s website at the following Non-Mainstream Music Education Bursary Scheme - Applications will be considered by the Committee for Non-Mainstream Department of Education and Skills funded Music Education.
